I’m hoping someone here can give me some advice because I’m getting a bit worried about my 2017 Renault Megane RS. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve noticed this clicking or grinding noise coming from the front wheels when I make sharp turns, especially when parking or doing U-turns, and it’s definitely getting louder. I’m pretty sure it’s a worn CV joint on one of the drive shafts, but I’m not entirely sure which side it’s coming from because the sound seems to be on both sides sometimes. The car has about 75,000 km on it and I drive it pretty enthusiastically, so I guess wear and tear on these components is expected, but I don’t want to leave it too long in case the joint fails completely while I’m driving. I’ve heard that if it’s just the outer CV boot that’s torn and the joint is still okay, you can sometimes just replace the boot and repack it with grease, but if the joint itself is damaged then the whole drive shaft needs replacing. I took it to a local garage and they quoted me a fortune without even properly inspecting it, which just made me walk out. Someone from the local Renault owners club mentioned Renault quick repair service and said there’s a garage in Al Quoz that knows these cars well and can actually diagnose whether it’s just the boot or the whole joint that needs replacing. Has anyone here had CV joint issues on their Megane or similar Renault and can tell me what the symptoms were and what the fix ended up costing? I don’t want to drive it too much and make things worse.
