Toner! That extra step in your skincare routine that makes your skin ‘extra.’ Thank God we have transitioned from the days when we used alcohol laced astringents (the mere thought of how it stung gives me shivers). If you were a greasy faced teenager in the 90s then you most likely dried the heck out of your face with those astringents, I know I did! And did it improve your skin? No! Because the drier and dehydrated your skin gets, the more oil your skin produces. Ah, that vicious cycle plus puberty and everything else in between! Well… thank goodness that’s all in the past now…so… back to toners!!!

What is a toner?

Toner is a water-based liquid that is loaded with ingredients that are formulated to address different skin concerns.

What exactly does a toner do?

After washing your face, toner helps you balance the ph level of your skin.

It removes the last traces of oil and dirt from your skin.

Helps shrink your pores.

Prepares your skin for the next step of your skincare routine, usually moisturiser (if you’re extra, there’s probably 1 or 2 more steps before getting to moisturiser, and if you’re extra extra then there’s probably a lot more).

What type of toner should you use?

The best way to get the best out of your facial toner is by using one that addresses your specific skin concern. So, do you have oily skin, dry skin, combination skin, ageing skin, sensitive skin? Knowing what your skin type is will help you make the right selection.
