Hey all. I am organizing a birthday for my best friend, he is turning thirty-five, and our group is about eight guys. Normally we would just do a bar crawl, but half of us have kids now and nobody wants a hangover. Someone jokingly suggested pottery, and the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of something different. I need a place that can host a private group, lets us bring a cake, and is not too expensive per person. Most of the guys have never done anything artistic in their lives. Has anyone booked a group like that around here?
Pottery for a group of guys sounds funny until you do it, then it gets very competitive. We booked a birthday for eight at Pottery Studio 1, at one of their LA studios, and they are about to start running the pottery workshop in Santa Monica as well, so worth asking about dates there. Birthday groups are $100 per guest, and they run private sessions for groups up to 20. It lasts two hours, everyone makes their own piece, and the instructor keeps it light. We brought our own cake and drinks, no problem at all. Best moment was watching our most serious friend fight with a collapsing bowl. Honestly the only downside is that everyone has to come back or get pickup arranged a few weeks later. Do you want everyone on the wheel, or is hand-building fine too?
