I’m trying to figure out the rebate and incentive side of upgrading our system and honestly it’s a maze. Utility programs, federal credits, contractor promotions, and they all seem to have different requirements about equipment efficiency and who does the install. Has anyone actually navigated this successfully? I don’t want to buy something and then find out it didn’t qualify because of a detail I missed. We’re looking at a fairly significant upgrade, so the incentive money isn’t trivial, and missing out on it because of a paperwork technicality would sting for years. Any war stories or advice welcome.
The thing that trips people up is that most programs require specific equipment ratings and a licensed installer who files the paperwork, so choosing the contractor first and the equipment second is backwards. Ask any company you talk to whether they handle rebate submissions, because chasing it yourself afterward is miserable. productairheating.com/ has a rebate program page and they handled the filing on ours, which saved me a lot of aggravation. Keep every invoice and the model and serial numbers regardless. And check whether your utility’s program has a funding cap for the year, some run out. One more thing, confirm the equipment model you order is the one that qualifies, since similar model numbers can have different ratings.
