Ugh. Upstairs toilet overflowed in our Bellevue house while we were out, and water came through the kitchen ceiling below. Part of the ceiling drywall sagged and collapsed onto the counter. It’s a mess. Is this something insurance usually covers, and who handles both the cleanup and fixing the ceiling? I have family coming for the holidays in two weeks, so time is tight. The kitchen is basically unusable right now. My wife says it’s a sign to redo the kitchen anyway.
Oof, sorry. Sudden overflows like that are usually covered, but check your policy. And since it’s toilet water, treat it as contaminated. Our upstairs supply line burst in Issaquah with the same result, a ceiling on the kitchen floor. We called Encore Construction, and the nice thing was they did everything: cleanup, sanitizing, drying out the ceiling cavity and the floor above, then rebuilding the ceiling and repainting. One company, one point of contact, no juggling. They worked with our insurance directly and billed them, we just paid the deductible. Took about three weeks start to finish including drying time. Take lots of photos before anything is removed, the adjuster will want them.
